Women’s Soccer Hosts Tennessee in Regular Season Finale
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky women’s soccer (10-3-4, 2-3-4) will conclude the 2024 regular season on Sunday, October 27th at 2 p.m. ET at the Bell Soccer Complex when they host rival Tennessee (7-4-4, 2-3-3). The match will also be televised on SECN with Mike Watts and Jill Loyden on the call. The contest will also be the first half of a doubleheader with Kentucky men’s soccer.
The Wildcats enter the match after a narrow 0-1 loss to No. 3 Mississippi State last Thursday. A lone goal from Kennedy Husbands in the 25th minute gave the Wildcats just their third loss of the season despite a valiant defensive effort from the visitors. Despite the tough result the Wildcats move their focus onto the next and welcome the Volunteers into Lexington with an undefeated 8-0-3 home record. Not only does Kentucky look to confirm its spot in the Southeastern Conference tournament for the 24th time in program history with a win on Sunday, but they will also be seeking their first undefeated regular season at home since 2011.
Tennessee also enters the match in need of a victory to keep their postseason future alive. The Volunteers drew 1-1 with No. 22 South Carolina at home on Thursday evening thanks to a late 88th-minute goal from the penalty spot from Macaira Midgley. The side is led by Kameron Simmonds who has eight goals, three assists, and 19 points in 18 games.
Tennessee leads the all-time series with a 17-12-4 record with a 4-7-2 home record against the Volunteers. The Wildcats last faced Tennessee at home in 2022 in a 1-4 loss and tied the side 1-1 in Knoxville in October of last season. Kentucky’s last victory against the Volunteers came on November 7th, 2014, at the SEC tournament in a 3-2 victory.
Big Blue Nation is encouraged to come pack the Bell with match promotions including free candy, concession vouchers for the first 100 students, free signed posters, a chance to win a signed soccer ball and Andy’s Frozen Custard.
