Sandidge, Hick and McGlothen earn All-SEC Awards

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., – The Southeastern Conference selected three Wildcats to All- SEC teams for the 2023-24 season, the conference announced Wednesday morning. 

Sophomore Levi Sandidge was selected to the All-SEC Second team, while Carson Hick and Madi McGlothen were selected respectively to the men’s and women’s All-Freshman Teams. The Second Team consists of the second-and third- place finishers in each event at the SEC Championships, held February 19-24. The All-Freshman Teams consist of any freshman who finished either in the top eight or was the highest scoring freshman of each event at the Championship, excluding relays. 

Sandidge, a Richardson, Texas native received All-SEC awards for the second consecutive year. At the 2024 SEC Championship, he took to the podium in the men’s 1650 freestyle for the second year in a row after swimming a blistering 14.44.24 to earn a third-place finish and a bronze medal. Sandidge would go on to compete in the event at the NCAA Championships, where he placed in the top-24. 

Hick set top-10 program times twice in the 500 yard freestyle in the championship, and became the second fastest swimmer in the event in Kentucky history with his swim of 4:15.18. The White Rock, New Mexico native also saw success in the 1650 freestyle where he swam a personal best clip of 14:47.84. His performance was also the second fastest time in program history. His 1000 split earned him a spot on the top-10 list, where he remained third with a time of 8:57.52. Hick would earn bids to compete in both events at the 2024 NCAA Championship where he would make his freshman debut by placing in the top-25 of each race. 

McGlothen made her SEC Championship debut by placing first in the C-Final of the women’s 400 Individual Medley. She swam a personal best time of 4:15.95 and earned 20 points towards the women’s team final score, the most of any Kentucky female freshman in an individual event during the Championship.
