Charity Hufnagel Sets Heptathlon Record at Texas Relays
AUSTIN, Texas — Senior Charity Hufnagel is no stranger to accomplishing big things in the world of track & field. After setting numerous marks in the Kentucky record book during the indoor season and earning her first Southeastern Conference Title with the Wildcats, Hufnagel has proven she has what it takes to turn heads. So, it should come as no surprise to anyone when she did exactly that at the Texas Relays this week.
The Indiana native took part in the women’s heptathlon as the lone representative for the Wildcats during the prominent Texas Relays over the past two days. She placed fourth overall in the event with 5,609 points setting a new program record overtaking Precious Nwokey’s record of 5,543 points set in 2010.
Hufnagel’s best event came in the high jump where she tied for the event win with a mark of 5’9.75”/1.77 meters for 941 points. She also earned 927 points with a ninth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.37 (-0.4). She set a new personal best of 120’6”/36.74 meters in the javelin throw and 2:16.73 in the 800 meters to close out the competition.
This is Hufnagel’s first school record and third mark overall in the record book. She currently ranks second overall in the indoor high jump and pentathlon.
The rest of the Kentucky track & field program will take part in the Battle on the Bayou and Stanford Invitational this week on March 29-30.
