Kentucky Falls to Top-Ranked South Carolina on Sunday

Ajae Petty had 16 points and eight rebounds, but the Kentucky women’s basketball team lost to top-ranked South Carolina 103-55 on Sunday afternoon at Rupp Arena.

Kentucky got 15 points from Saniah Tyler and 11 points from Maddie Scherr.

South Carolina got out of the gates quickly, scoring the first seven points of the game. UK broke the run with a Maddie Scherr bucket. However, South Carolina scored the next nine points and the Gamecocks would lead 25-8 after one period.

The Gamecocks scored the first basket of the second quarter before the Cats got a three from Saniah Tyler and a Scherr layup to cut the deficit to 27-13. UK could get no closer in the second quarter and would trail 42-22 at the half.

In the third quarter, South Carolina opened with a 7-1 run before Cassidy Rowe hit a three to make it 49-26. The Gamecocks went on a 10-2 run later in the quarter but Kentucky had a 7-0 run late in the period. Still, South Carolina led 74-43 through 30 minutes.

Kentucky scored first in the fourth quarter on a Scherr basket but South Carolina used a 24-6 run to extend the lead.

Kentucky returns to action on Thursday, hosting Ole Miss in the final home game of the season for the Cats. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET and the game can be seen on SEC Network Plus.
