Swimming & Diving to Honor Senior Class Friday vs. Cincinnati
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky Swimming & Diving is set to host its final dual meet of the 2023-24 season this Friday against the University of Cincinnati inside the Lancaster Aquatic Center at 4 p.m. Admission is free for all fans. Students will receive free pizza and the first 200 fans can take home a UK swim & dive rubber duck courtesy of UK Athletics. Those wishing to follow along with live results can do so on the Meet Mobile app.
The meet will serve as senior day for UK with 13 seniors set to be honored at a pre-meet ceremony beginning at 3:40 p.m. Kentucky seniors to be recognized include: Max Berg, Sam Duncan, Zane Rosely, Kaitlyn Bacik, Torie Buerger, Sofie Davis, Megan Drumm, Bridget Engel, Leah Luckett, Claire McDaniels, Tori Orcutt, Anna Havens Rice and Kristyn Sabol.
The Wildcats posted five program top-ten times at their dual meet against the Louisville Cardinals last Saturday, led by sophomore Ryan Merani who won the 200 butterfly and 200 IM. In the 200 butterfly, Merani leaped to second all-time in program history, recording a brisk pace of 1:42.50. He also placed first in the 200 IM and second in the 100 fly.
On the women’s side, sophomore Grace Frericks gained a victory in the 200 backstroke for the second-straight dual meet, while Caroline Benda notched a new career-best in the 1000 freestyle with a 9:45.40, which was also good for fourth in program history.
Senior Sam Duncan won the men’s 1-meter springboard, while Abby Devereaux placed second on both springboards for the women.
The Bearcats are coming off a pair of dual meet victories over Xavier. UK and UC met last season at Cincinnati, where the Wildcat men and women both emerged victorious. Kentucky has swept 13 straight dual meets against the Bearcats dating back to the 2009-10 season.
