Two Records Set on Final Day of Razorback Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — It’s been a record-setting season so far for the Wildcats and that didn’t slow down this weekend as two more records fell on the final day of the Razorback Invitational.

Freshman Ed Bird and senior Sydney Steely set respective freshman and school records in the 3000 meters and 800 meters in additon to freshman Kate Powers’ improved freshman record in the weight throw on Friday.

Bird crossed the line in tremendous fashion recording a sub-eight minute time of 7:59.99 in his 3000-meter debut. The time beat teammate Jake Allen’s time of 8:06.22 set in 2021 and ranks sixth on the UK all-time performers list.

Steely set a new school record in the indoor 800 meters after setting a personal best time of 2:03.53. The senior was neck and neck in her heat with Oregon’s Klaudia Kazimierska as the two fought down the straightaway for the heat win. Despite taking second in the heat, Steely bested Ariah Graham’s time of 2:04.64 set in 2016 breaking an eight-year-old record.

In addition to the records broken today, the Wildcats recorded seven top-10 finishes with four personal bests. The Wildcats finish the meet weekend with three new records, two of which are freshman records, 12 top-10 finishes, and 11 personal bests.
