Kate Powers Improves Freshman Weight Throw Record at Razorback Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — For the second time this season, Kate Powers tore up the record book as the University of Kentucky track and field program concluded day one of the Razorback Invitational hosted by fellow Southeastern Conference foe, the University of Arkansas.

Powers was the highlight of the day for the program as the freshman not only broke the indoor women’s weight throw freshman record she set just two weeks ago, but she did so, twice at the Razorback Invitational.

Powers wasted no time as on her first attempt of the evening, the Massachusetts native threw a 65’4.75”/19.93 meters bomb to start the competition. A throw that easily bests her 65’0”/19.81 meters from the Rod McCravy Memorial meet in Louisville in early January.

Powers wasn’t finished however as on the very next throw she achieved her farthest mark to date, a record 65’8.25”/20.02 meter rocket that sits sixth overall on the UK all-time performers list. Powers went on to finish eighth in the competition.

In addition to Powers’ fine throwing, the Wildcats collected six top-five finishes on the day including seven personal bests.
