LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky swimming & diving sophomore Ryan Merani has been named Co-SEC Men’s Swimmer of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Merani, who shares the award with Alabama’s Charlie Hawke and Georgia’s Ian Grum, won three individual events this past weekend during the Wildcats’ dual meet against the Crimson Tide.

A native of Lutherville Timonium, Md., Merani captured first in the 200 IM, 400 IM and 200 butterfly to score a meet-high 27 points individually. The sophomore set a new season-best time in the 400 IM with an NCAA B-standard of 3:45.98 and won his three events by a combined 6.54 seconds, an average of a 2.18 second margin per victory. In addition to his three individual wins, Merani also competed on both of UK’s “A-relay” teams at the meet, helping the 400 free relay to second and the 200 medley relay to third.

This week’s award is the first SEC Swimmer of the Week honors of Merani’s collegiate career. He previously was named SEC Freshman of the Week back on Jan. 31 of 2023.
