Joshua Lapadat Named Third Captain of Men’s Tennis

by Greg Welsh

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky men’s tennis has named senior Joshua Lapadat as the team’s third captain, head coach Cedric Kauffmann announced on Tuesday. Lapadat joins Taha Baadi and Tate Sandman as captains for the 2024 spring season, set to begin with a doubleheader against NKU and EKU on Jan. 15.

Lapadat has been a consistent winner during his time in Lexington, totaling a 64-12 singles record in dual matches and a 36-23 doubles mark. The native of London, Ontario was named the 2023 SEC Tournament MVP as Kentucky went on to win the conference tournament for the second time in program history last year. He was also named a First-Team All-SEC selection, adding to his Second Team honors from the 2022 season.

“Over the past three and a half years Josh has grown tremendously,” Associate head coach Matthew Gordon said. “His record on the court speaks for itself and, on top of this, his professionalism off the court is second to none. His experience and leadership will be very important this year and we are delighted to have him as captain.”

“I believe the captainship is very important for a team to be successful,” Lapadat said. “I have been fortunate enough to have great captains the last three years here at UK and I have always looked up to the captains that I’ve had. The fact that I now have the opportunity to be in that position means a lot to me. I can’t wait to represent the blue and white this spring!”
