Kentucky Cross Country Completes SEC Championships

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Kentucky Cross Country men’s and women’s teams began the postseason at the Southeastern Conference Championships on Friday, October 27th hosted by the University of South Carolina.

Held at the Charwood Golf Course, the men’s team scored 197 points to finish in eighth place in the 8,000-meter race while the women’s team scored 292 points in their 6,000-meter race to finish 12th.

Jake Allen crossed the line first for the Wildcats in 15th with a personal best time of 23:29.1. Ed Bird followed with a 30th place finish with a time of 24:14.3 and was one of the top seven freshmen to finish and earn SEC All-Freshman team honors.

Jackson Watts claimed 44th with a time of 24:42.2 while Ethan Kern scored points for the men’s team for the first time this season, placing 53rd with a time of 24:54.7. Harper Moore closed out the scoring for the men with a 71st place finish with a time of 25:19.0.

For the women, Ally Kruger crossed the line first for the Wildcats in 37th with a time of 21:04.7.

Mollie Roden crossed the line next in 56th with a personal best time of 21:35.1 while Phoebe McCowan finished 67th with a time of 21:43.1.

Julz Williams and Jenna Schwinghamer closed out the scoring for the women as both finished 80th and 82nd respectively with times of 21:59.4 and 22:01.0 for the pair.

Following this event, the next meet for UK will come on Nov. 10th at the NCAA Southeast Regional hosted by the University of South Carolina – Upstate in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
