UKTF Secure 15 Event Wins On Senior Day

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky track & field program celebrated 21 seniors at the Jim Green Invitational at the University of Kentucky Outdoor Track and Field Complex this afternoon.

Event Wins

The Wildcats won a total of 15 events today.

Payton Phillips got the day started earning the first win and personal best of the afternoon. Phillips cleared 13’5.75”/4.11 meters on her second attempt for the PR. Keaton Daniel won the men’s pole vault with a mark of 17’7.75”/5.38 meters.

Josh Sobota won the men’s discus throw with a mark of 169’6”/51.66 meters. Sobota earned a second win on the day in the shot put with a throw of 64’8”/19.71 meters.

Simisola Akinrinsola won the women’s shot put with a mark of 46’4”/14.12 meters.

On the track, the men’s 4×100 relay team of Langston Jackson, Kennedy Lightner, Jordan Anthony, and Brandon Miller won with a time of 39.39, just a few hundredths of a second off their season best they set in Texas last week.

Kennedy Lightner earned an automatic qualifier after he won both his heat and the overall men’s 100 meter dash prelims. His time of 10.28 (0.5) was good enough for a new personal best. Lightner improved his time more so in the finals when he won the event with a personal best of 10.19.

Karimah Davis won the women’s 400 meters with a personal best time of 52.51. Her mark sees her move to seventh on the UK all-time performers list. Wayne Lawrence Jr. won the men’s 400 meters with a time of 45.51.

Anthaya Charlton won both her heat and the prelims in the women’s 100 meter dash with a time of 11:32Q (1.5). She went on to win the finals with an improved 11.27 (1.5).

Freshman Ally Kruger continued an impressive season winning the women’s 800 meters with a personal best time of 2:11.43.

The men’s 4×400 relay team of Brian Faust, Brandon Miller, Wayne Lawrence Jr., Kennedy Lightner held on for a win at a time of 3:08.07.

Personal Bests

A total of eight personal bests were set on the final day of the Jim Green Invitational.

In the men’s pole vault, Jacob Sobota cleared a new height of 16’10”/5.13 meters to finish runner-up to teammate Keaton Daniel. Sobota’s personal best sees him move to eighth on the UK all-time performers list.

Continuing in the men’s field events, John Kruzel set a personal best in the discus throw with a mark of 159’3”/48.55 meters. His toss saw him finish runner-up behind teammate Josh Sobota.

In the running events, freshman Cierra Fogg set a personal best of 13.20 (1.2) in the women’s 100 meter dash prelims. She finished 33rd in the event.

Patrice Cornelius finished 22nd in the women’s 400 meters but set a personal best time of 1:03.10.

Juliann Williams finished runner up with a personal best time of 2:12.02 in the women’s 800 meters.

Notables

Kaitlyn Cain placed within the top 10 in the women’s pole vault finishing eighth with a mark of 11’6.25”/3.51 meters.

Michael Browning placed fourth in the men’s discus throw with a mark of 144’4”/44.00 meters.

Dennis Ohene-Adu placed runner-up in the men’s shot put with a mark of 55’5”/16.89 meters.

Leah Moore placed third in the women’s shot put with a mark of 43’0.50”/13.12 meters.

Yasmin Brooks finished runner up in the women’s 100 meter hurdles prelims with a time of 13.45q (0.5) while Shadajah Ballard placed third overall but won her heat with a time of 13.52Q (1.1). Brooks went on to finish runner up in the finals with a time of 13.20 (0.6).

Megan Moss placed runner up in the women’s 400 meters with a time of 53.34. Brian Faust was runner up in the men’s 400 meters with a time of 46.52 while Brandon Nyandoro earned a top 10 finish with a time of 48.46.

Colleen Branch placed just outside the top five at sixth in the women’s 100 meter dash with a time of 11.94 (1.5).

The 4×400 relay team of Dajour Miles, Tamiia Fuller, Yasmin Brooks, Reynei Wallace placed runner up with a time of 3:37.10 while a team of Mahogany Mobley, Iantha Wright, Seven Simms, Patrice Cornelius placed fourth with a time of 3:55.59.
