Two UKTF Wildcats Earn SEC Weekly Awards

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Two Kentucky track and field student-athletes have won weekly awards, the Southeastern Conference has announced today.

Masai Russell was named Women’s Runner of the Week while Jordan Turner was named Men’s Freshman of the Week.

Russell earned the conference award after picking up three wins at the Michael Johnson Invitational. Her stadium record time of 12.50 (1.1) was enough for the win in the 100 hurdles, and she was also a member of two relay teams that won at the weekend. The 4×100 won with a time of 43:38 and the 4×400 won with a season best of 3:28.21 that ranks at No. 5 on the UK all-time performers list and No. 6 nationally.

Turner earned the award after winning his second long jump competition of the season at the Michael Johnson Invitational. He achieved his winning mark (7.80m/25-0.75) twice before passing on his final two attempts in the win. Turner remains ranked seventh nationally and is the top freshman in the event.

UKTF will conclude the regular season this weekend when they host the Jim Green Invitational at the UK Track & Field Complex on April 28-29.
