Three Wildcats Named All-America Honorable Mention on Day Two in Atlanta
ATLANTA, Ga. – The Kentucky women’s swimming and diving team impressed on the second day of the 2022 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Georgia, as three Wildcats were named All-America Honorable Mention.
Bailey Bonnett recorded the program’s highest finish of the night after a 14th-place showing in the 200 IM, her best career finish at the national meet in this event. Her 1:56.40 in finals was just off the lifetime best of 1:55.49 she posted in prelims – which now ranks third all-time in program history – and marked the 11th All-America honor of her career.
Also racing with Bonnett in finals of the 200 IM was Lauren Poole, who placed right behind her in 15th with a time of 1:56.77. Her 1:55.42 from this morning was a personal record and lowered her own second-fastest performance in school history.
Kyndal Knight earned a spot in the consolation final of the women’s 1-meter after posting a score of 302.20 during prelims. Although slightly off her first-round total, her final mark of 278.75 was good enough to place 16th overall as she earned honorable mention status on this discipline for the second year in a row.
Throwing down a lifetime best of 1:56.15 during prelims of the 200 IM was Sophie Sorenson, who moved up to fourth all-time in the record book while finishing 18th overall. Gillian Davey (1:57.44) and Anna Havens Rice (1:58.66) joined Sorenson with morning swims.
Two additional Wildcats in Izzy Gati and Megan Drumm competed during prelims of the 500 free, finishing with respective times of 4:44.82 and 4:51.12. In the first NCAA appearance of her career, Morgan Southall posted a score of 232.20 during prelims of the 1-meter.
Kentucky returns to the pool once again on Friday, March 18 for the third day of the big dance. Events featuring Wildcats include the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 back, 3-meter and 400 medley relay with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. ET and finals set for 6 p.m.
