Garrett Wood Paces Cats on Day Two of Hootie at Bulls Bay
AWENDAW, S.C. – Kentucky men’s golfer Garrett Wood paced the play of the Wildcats during a hotly-contested second round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate. Wood fired his second straight score of 2-under par to lead four Wildcats with sub-par scores, but all 16 teams in the field shot par or better during Monday’s second round.
Kentucky is tied for eighth overall with a combined 12-under scorecard. UK will enter Tuesday’s final round just eight shots off a top-three finish. South Carolina leads the field at 30-under par. NC State, Ole Miss and Missouri are tied for second at 20-under par. Six teams comprise the middle of the pack and all are within four strokes of each other.
Wood fired a 2-under 70 for the second straight day and is tied for 22nd overall at 4-under par. He had an up-and-down opening nine holes, before picking up birdies at the par-three 12th and par-four 18th to finish the day two shots below par. He has now generated 14 par-or-better rounds on the season.
Alex Goff finished the day tied for 27th by matching Wood with a round of 70. The Kings Mountain, North Carolina, native got off to a hot start by sinking a birdie on each of the opening three holes. He actually moved to 4-under for the round with a birdie at the 10th but fended off consecutive bogeys with pars on the final two holes to maintain his sub-par score.
Campbell Kremer also shot 2-under during Monday’s second round. He has now fired five consecutive par-or-better scores. Kremer is tied for 35th overall on the individual leaderboard. Much like Goff, Kremer began the round by getting off to a fast start with three birdies through the opening seven holes. Kremer pushed his score as low as 5-under with birdies on the 11th and 12th. He suffered bogeys on three of the final four holes for his finishing score.
Hugo Archer was the fourth Wildcat to card a round of 70. He shot 1-under par on both the front nine and the back nine for his 2-under round. Archer’s highlight of the day was gaining a stroke back on the 18th to gain positive momentum heading into Tuesday’s final round. Archer is tied for 65th overall through two rounds of action.
Jacob Cook concluded the day in a tie for 59th after a 2-over 74. Zach Norris, playing as an individual, is in 85th overall with a 76 on Tuesday.
