Wildcats Head to Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Fresh off a fourth-place finish in its last event the Kentucky men’s golf team is set to begin its fourth spring event at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate on Sunday.

Kentucky’s starting lineup consists of Jacob Cook, Garrett Wood, Alex Goff, Campbell Kremer and Hugo Archer. Zach Norris will compete as an individual.

“The Hootie is one of our favorite events of the season,” UK head coach Brian Craig said. “Bulls Bay Golf Club is a unique and challenging test of golf, and the hospitality is off the charts. We are ready to play and moving in the right direction. This would be a good week to play we know we are capable.”

The first round of the tournament is scheduled for Sunday with teams teeing off the first and 10th holes beginning at 9 a.m. The second round is slated for Monday starting at 9 a.m., and the third and final round will begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

The Wildcats will also be playing to help donate to the Any Given Tuesday’s GoFund me for the victims of the horrific tragedy involving the University of the Southwest golf program. Fans, friends and families of the UK men’s golf program are encouraged to donate based on every birdie the Wildcats make this week at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate.

NOTEWORTHY

The Field: The field consists of No. 13 Auburn, College of Charleston, East Tennessee State, Furman, Iowa State, Kent State, Kentucky, Limestone, NC State, New Mexico, Missouri, No. 22 Ole Miss, No. 23 Purdue, South Carolina, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Fourteen of the teams are ranked in the top 100 of the latest Golfstat rankings.

Tournament History: Kentucky is making its 17th overall appearance in the event. Goff placed 12th in the event a season ago behind rounds of 69 and 68 to close out the week. Cook tied for 57th and had a round of 71 to finish the tournament.

The Course: This 7,220-yard course, just minutes from Charleston, is stimulating and offers two par fives that are more than 600 yards long. This tournament annually features some of the best collegiate programs in the nation. It lies along the tidal salt marshes to the north of Charleston and is known for its bold and somewhat idiosyncratic style. Taking into account the ever-changing coastal wind conditions, fairways are wide and green sites generously proportioned to offer the players a wide variety of approach play.

The Lineup: Cook, Goff and Wood have started all six stroke-events this season. Kremer is set to make his fifth start of the season, while Archer is making his third of the season and first of the spring slate.

Heating Up: Kremer has made three consecutive starts this spring and improved his finish in each of them. He began the spring slate with a tie for 25th at Lake Las Vegas and then earned a tie for 24th at the Wake Forest event at Pinehurst No. 2. Last week at the Schenkel Invitational, Kremer charted a career-low finish of 16th behind three par-or-better rounds and a 2-under score for the week.

Keep Cookin’: Cook’s banner season continued last week with a career-best finish of a tie for fourth at the Schenkel. He matched a career-low round with a third-round 66 to push into the top five. He has a team-best four top-10 finishes, five top-20 finishes and a team-best 71.00 stroke average.

Total career sub-70 Rounds:
Goff – 13
Wood – 10
Cook – 8
Norris – 4
Archer – 1
Kremer – 1
