by Chandler Brandes

LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky women’s soccer player Jordyn Rhodes has been named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region Second Team, as announced by the organization on Monday afternoon. This is the second consecutive year she has earned the accolade after being named to the third team a season ago.

With her selection to the team, Rhodes is now eligible to become a USCA All-American in the next round of voting.

Rhodes led the Wildcats in several categories during the 2021 campaign, including goals (11), assists (5), points (27), shots (62), and shots on goal (29). The junior forward concluded the regular season tied for second in the Southeastern Conference with 11 goals, also ranking third with 0.58 goals per game and 62 shots as well as fourth with 27 points.

The South Lebanon, Ohio native continued to etch her name into the record books throughout the year. Her three-goal effort against Marshall on Aug. 22 marked the second hat trick of her career, the first which came during the SEC Tournament First Round in 2020. She is just the second Wildcat to ever record more than one hat trick in their time in the blue and white, joining Cheryl Shimovetz who also had two back in 1992.

She is also one of only five Wildcats to ever score at least three goals in a given contest, with the last one before her own 2020 performance dating back to 2006 from Guiliana Lopez. Additionally, Rhodes is just the fifth UK player to have at least six points in one match.

Rhodes netted the first of two UK goals in a shutout win over Missouri on Oct. 24 for her 11th goal of the year, matching the amount she scored during the 2020-21 season. It signaled her 30th goal as a Wildcat, moving her up to No. 3 all-time in program history for career goals to be tied with Arin Gilliland.

Rhodes, who recently landed on the All-SEC Second Team, ranks fifth all-time in program history for an individual season with her 11 goals from both the 2020-21 and 2021 seasons. She also tallied two goals against Eastern Kentucky on Sept. 9 to bring her career total multi-goal games up to seven.

A starter in every match over the past two seasons, Rhodes has logged nearly 3,800 minutes on the pitch during her career, including over 1,500 minutes in 2021. Her five assists and 27 points on the year are also her individual season-highs.

A kinesiology major, Rhodes was named to the 2020 Fall Sports SEC Academic Honor Roll after landing on the First-Year Academic Honor Roll in 2019.
