No. 5 Kentucky Heads to Charlotte for Final Road Test
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After sweeping its non-conference slate for the first time in program history, No. 5 Kentucky (10-0-4, 2-0-4 Conference USA) is set to partake in its final road test on Saturday against Charlotte (8-5, 3-3 C-USA) in the Queen City.
Originally scheduled to broadcast on CUSA.tv, the match will now kick off at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
Four of the last six meetings between the two sides have gone to overtime, with Kentucky producing a 3-1-2 record over the span. Despite scoring the contest’s first goal less than five minutes into the most recent matchup, the Wildcats dropped a 2-1 decision in overtime at home last spring.
Kentucky enters the weekend on the heels of a 2-1 win over in-state foe Bellarmine last Tuesday, polishing off an 8-0 record in non-league play. First-year midfielder Nick Gutmann scored the first and second goals of his collegiate career, while redshirt junior Ryan Troutman earned his third victory between the pipes in place of the resting C-USA Defensive Player of the Week Jan Hoffelner.
Charlotte returns to Transamerica Field after a week of rest, most recently falling 2-1 to then-No. 3 Marshall on Oct. 23. The loss marked the 49ers’ third in the last five matches, with two coming at the hands of ranked opponents.
