Wildcats Sign Lidia Gonzalez, Top-Five Recruit Out of Spain

by Cami Moore

LEXINGTON, Ky. –  The University of Kentucky women’s tennis program signed Lidia Gonzalez to the class of 2021, head coach Carlos Drada announced Thursday evening. The Madrid, Spain, native will join a competitive and young team next fall as a top-five recruit in her class out of Spain.

Kentucky sports a 12-person roster this season, but will graduate up to four dominant seniors at the end of next spring, making room for an elite class of 2021. Gonzalez will become one of five Spaniards on the team, including four current student-athletes in freshman Salsa Aher, sophomores Carlota Molina and Maialen Morante and junior Carla Girbau – all top-tier recruits out of Spain.

Kentucky anticipates additional signees during the early recruitment period this fall.

We had a lot of fun in the recruiting process, both getting to know her and her family. She has had outstanding results, especially in Spain, and we are certain that she will make an immediate impact on our team next year.
