UK Men’s Tennis Signs Joshua Lapadat to NLI

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky men’s tennis program continued its utilization of its renowned Canadian recruiting pipeline, signing premier junior competitor Joshua Lapadat to a National Letter of Intent.

The London, Ontario, native will join the Wildcats for the 2020-21 season.

“I’m really excited about Josh joining our team,” said UK head coach Cedric Kauffmann. “His talent level and athleticism are really high, and his coaching has been excellent. He knows how to play tennis and will become a force in college. We can’t wait to get to work with him.”

Lapadat comes to Lexington as a Canadian national champion in both singles and doubles play on the ITF Junior Circuit. The left-handed amateur owns a UTR high of 13.33 and a No. 96 ITF Junior world ranking.

“We are delighted to have Josh join our family,” said assistant coach Matthew Gordon. “He is already one of the best junior players in the world and has tremendous upside. He is going to fit in very well with the team, and we can’t wait to get started with him.”

Lapadat becomes the latest of a recent string of UK recruits from Canada, including the entire class before him. Newmarket, Ontario, native Liam Draxl, who was named collegiate tennis’ No. 2 player in the ITA Freshmen/Newcomer rankings last September, as well as No. 55 singles player and Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, Quebec, native Alexandre LeBlanc and Montreal, Quebec, native Gabriel Diallo joined redshirt freshman and Toronto, Ontario, native Jonathan Sorbo on the 2019-20 Kentucky roster.
