Kentucky Cross Country Finishes 18th and 29th at Pre-Nationals on Saturday
TERRE HAUTE, Ind.- Kentucky raced in Pre-Nationals on Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course. Two teams competed for the Wildcats in the “blue” races while two other teams competed in the “open” races at the course that will host the NCAA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 23.
In the blue races, the women’s team finished 18th overall on 532 points in a 6,000-meter competition while the men’s team finished 29th overall on 699 points over an 8k course.
Washington won the women’s blue race on 84 points and BYU won the men’s blue race with 81 points.
Looking forward, UK now begins its preparations for the SEC Championships which will be hosted in Lexington at the Kentucky Horse Park on Friday, Nov. 1 at 9 a.m. ET.
Men’s Team Report
Brennan Fields, who finished 43rd in 24:22.3, led Kentucky to a 29th-place finish in Terre Haute.
Aaron Withrow finished 131st in 25:06.5 to be the Wildcats No. 2 finisher, while Trevor Warren (143rd, 25:14.8) and Dylan Allen (177th, 25:38.7) were UK’s No. 3 and No. 4 finishers respectively.
Finally, Patrick Schaefer placed 205th in 25:54.0 to round out the top-5 finishers on the men’s side.
Shane Williams was the top finisher for the men’s team in the open race, finishing in 48th with a time of 26:15.6.
Women’s Team Report
Perri Bockrath led the way for the women’s team, finishing 77th in 21:12.1 to help Kentucky earn an 18th-place finish.
Kaylie Kenne (93rd, 21:24.2), Sophie Carrier (107th, 21:32.3) and Kaitlyn Lacy (122nd, 21:39.6) finished in the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 spots for the Wildcats.
Caitlin Shepard rounded out the top-5 for UK with a 138th-place finish in 21:48.6.
Madisyn Peeples was the top finisher for the women’s team in the open race, finishing in 33rd with a time of 22:42.1.
