Clarke and Ross win, McLaughlin top collegian at Tennessee Relays

by Jake Most

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Kentucky track and field team picked up three wins or top-collegian performances and a host of other top marks at the Tennessee Relays on Friday at the Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium.

Wildcats dominated the women’s 100m with Class of 2017 alumna Javianne Oliver running a blistering, albeit wind-aided time of 11.04 (+3.5). Freshman Phenom Sydney McLaughlin was second overall, and top collegian, in 11.07w.

Jasmine Camacho-Quinn ran 11.24w, Kianna Gray was fourth in 11.27w, Celera Barnes was sixth in 11.31w and Kayelle Clarke was 11th in 11.56w (+3.5).

McLaughlin’s time ranks seventh on the NCAA descending-order list, which qualifies times into the NCAA Preliminary Championships run with tailwinds up to +4.0 meters/second and all those times have tailwinds greater than 2.0 m/s.

Clarke won the 200m in 22.88w (+2.6). Faith Ross won the first event of the day, the women’s 400m hurdles, running a season-best time 58.37.

Class of 2015 alumna Kendra Harrison ran a scintillating wind-aided season-opener of 12.40w (+3.1) to win the 100m hurdles (her world record in the event is 12.20). Harrison’s fellow volunteer assistant coach Kori Carter was second in 12.82w. Jacklyn Howell ran 12.93w to place fourth, and as No. 2 collegian in the race.

Dwight St. Hillaire moved to No. 7 on the UK outdoor 200m all-time performers’ list in 20.76 (+1.5) to place third in the race. He was fifth in the men’s 100m in 10.33 (+1.6).

Caleb Wilt placed third in the men’s 110m hurdles with a time of 13.89w (+2.4).

Marie-Josée Ebwea-Bile placed second in the women’s long jump with a windy mark of 20’9″/6.32m (+2.5).

Ellen Ekholm placed third in the women’s high jump with a clearance at 5’8.75″/1.75m.

The meet will be streamed live Saturday on SEC Network+. AdkinsTrack Timing will provide live results.

Four weeks of regular-season competition remain before the Southeastern Conference Championships are held May 11-13 with Tennessee as host university.

Saturday’s competition begins at 11 a.m. in the field with the women’s discus and men’s pole vault. Saturday track action features mostly relays starting at noon.
