UK Men’s Soccer Coaches Named Southeast Region Staff of the Year

LEXINGTON, KY. – Kentucky Men’s Soccer Head Coach Johan Cedergren along with Associate Head Coach Chase Wileman, Assistant Head Coach Josh Oldroyd and Director of Operations Marcus Aldaba earned the United Soccer Coaches’ Southeast Region Staff of the Year on Friday.
 
The staffs from the eight Division I regions will be recognized at the College Coaches Awards Reception on Jan. 10, 2019 at the United Soccer Coaches Convention in Chicago.
 
United Soccer Coaches will announce the Men’s and Women’s National Staff of the Year for all NCAA divisions on Friday, Dec. 14.

Cedergren and staff have led the Wildcats into Friday’s NCAA Tournament Elite Eight matchup against Maryland at The Bell.
 
Cedergren was named Conference USA Coach of the Year earlier this month, for the third time in his seven-year tenure at UK.

Kentucky won the Conference USA double this year claiming the league regular season and tournament titles.

The Wildcats have a nation-best 19 wins going into the NCAA quarterfinals at 19-1-1 overall (No. 2 in DI won-lost-tied percentage).
 
UK is ranked a program-record No. 1 in the College Soccer News poll and No. 3 in the Coaches’ poll. UK is No. 5 in the pre-tournament RPI and got a program-record No.3-national seed in the NCAA Tournament.
 
Kentucky boasts the nation’s No. 2 goals against average, .470, and the No. 5 scoring offense (2.33 per game).

UK ranks fourth nationally in total goals (49). The Wildcats have conceded 10 goals to date.
 
Kentucky is 12-0 at The Bell in 2018, scoring 32 and only conceding two goals.
 
The Wildcats have kept a program record 14 shutouts this season (67 percent), a total which is second most in the nation.
