Floréal Inducted into Southwest Conference Hall of Fame

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky track and field and cross country head coach Edrick Floréal was inducted into the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame earlier this week.

The Texas Sports Hall of Fame (TSHOF) hosts the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame.

“To the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame, thank you very much for this great honor,” Floréal said. “To my teammates and coaches, thank you for your contributions to my career. To my fellow inductees, congratulations. I am pleased to move alongside you.” cvty

The Southwest Conference Hall of Fame is one of four separate halls of fame housed within the Texas Sports Hall of Fame’s physical structure. They include the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame, the Texas Tennis Hall of Fame, the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and now, the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame.

Floréal was the premier triple jumper in the NCAA during his career. He was a five-time national champion, sweeping the indoor and outdoor titles in 1989 and 1990. He won his first NCAA event title in 1988.

Floréal was a nine-time All-American at Arkansas and was part of four NCAA team championships. He also won six Southwest Conference titles with five victories in the triple jump and an indoor long jump crown in 1990. Floréal helped the Razorbacks to seven SWC team titles. He remains the No. 3 performer in the triple jump, indoor and outdoor, in school history and was inducted into the University of Arkansas Sports Hall of Honor in 2012.

Floréal competed for Canada at the 1988 and 1992 Summer Olympic Games in the triple jump. He was the 1990 Commonwealth Games Bronze Medalist in the triple jump.

He has been head coach at Kentucky since the fall of 2012. In that time he’s transformed Kentucky into a premier track and field program. The Wildcats have made the podium (top-four finish) at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in two of the last three years, won eight individual NCAA titles and earned 110 All-America honors during Coach Flo’s tenure.
