LEXINGTON, Ky. – JJ Williams scored the opening goal, which proved to be the winner and assisted two more as Kentucky won its third match from as many opportunities in Conference USA action, outpacing Florida Atlantic 4-0 at The Bell on Sunday.

The Wildcats improved their 2017 overall record to won 6, lost 1, drew 2, while FAU dropped to W1, L4, D0 (1-2-0 C-USA).

Kentucky extended its unbeaten run to three games having won at New Mexico and tied RV/No. 21 Xavier on Wedensday.

The goals
Williams opened the scoring in the 32nd minute smashing home a Tanner Hummel cross after Sam Stockton hit a lovely ball over the top to release the UK wingback along the right side.

Williams scored his second goal of the year, which was also his second from as many matches. Hummel and Stockton each picked up their second assist of the year.

FAU held Kentucky at bay through halftime and past the hour mark, but senior captain Landon Souder doubled UK’s advantage on 65 minutes breaking free inside the six to head home a Mikkel Pedersen corner kick.

Souder scored his first goal of the season, and the second of his UK career. Pedersen assisted for the second time this campaign.

Ten minutes later, Noah Hutchins removed any doubt of the result hammering home at the near post from 12 yards out with a right-footed strike. Williams provided the service, which fell to Hutchins.

And then Stefan Stojkovic put the cherry on top with one second remaining as he latched onto a long throw-in by Williams to finish from close range after the FAU keeper couldn’t hold onto his initial attempt.

Stojkovic moved into sole possession of the team lead for goals with three. The senior has a team-high 10 career goals.

The quote
“We know FAU are a hard team to break down at times,” Hutchins said. “The start of the game was a little frustrating for us, but it was good to score. Then going into the second half we knew we had to come out strong and break them down again.

“It’s really good for us to get this win. We are off during the week then next week it’ll be another big game. In conference play we’re 3-0. It’s a great spot to be in.”
