Kentucky Completes Day One at Wake Forest Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Kentucky men’s tennis team began play at the Wake Forest Open on Friday. UK picked up seven wins and will continue with semifinals play on Saturday.

Senior Beck Pennington gave Kentucky two victories on Friday and advanced to the semifinals of the A2 singles bracket. Pennington took down Davidson’s JB Gough, 6-0, 6-3 ad Kevin Tabrizi of Indiana, 6-1, 6-3 to move on to the semifinals. Pennington will take on Alan Gadjiev of the host Wake Forest on Saturday.

Sophomore Enzo Wallart picked up one win after defeating Sebastian Acuna of Georgia State, 6-4, 6-2. Wallart was defeated by Gadjiev in the quarterfinals, 6-4, 6-2 and bumped Wallart to the fifth place bracket where he will play Tabrizi.

Senior Nils Ellefsen defeated Pablo Moreno of Troy in a hard-fought 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4 match. Ellefsen went three sets in the quarterfinals as well, falling to Jannis Koeke of Georgia State 2-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2. Ellefsen will play Max Kan of Wake Forest in the fifth place bracket on Saturday.

In B1 Singles, freshman Alex Dominguez earned two wins in straight sets to advance to the semifinals. Dominguez defeated Troy’s Jiaqui Duan 7-6 (3), 6-0 and Alex Garcia of UNCC, 6-4, 7-5. Dominguez will take on Filip Mansson of Troy on Saturday.

The Wildcats earned one win in doubles play. The pairing of Ellefsen/Wallart took down Troy’s duo Ndayishmiye/Bedwan, 6-3. They will face Andrukhov/Acuna of Georgia State on Saturday. Dominguez/Pennington fell to Schwab/Werner of Campbell, 7-6 (4) and will compete in the consolation bracket on Saturday.
