Kentucky to compete in ITA Regional in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Kentucky men’s tennis team will
send four athletes to Knoxville, Tennessee this weekend to compete in the ITA
Regional Championships hosted by the University of Tennessee. The tournament
begins on Thursday, Oct. 20.

“I’m very excited about this weekend for these four guys,”
assistant coach Matt Emery said.  “They
have had a great couple weeks of practice and I know they are itching to get
back to competition. I’m really excited to see these guys compete and leave it
all out there this weekend.”

Doubles pairings of Senior Nils Ellefsen/junior Trey
Yates and senior Beck Pennington/sophomore Enzo Wallart will compete in the
doubles draw. All four will compete in the singles draw as well. Ellefsen/Yates
will take on Jason Holloway/Jacob Perkins from Wright State on Thursday at 8 a.m., while
Pennington and Wallart have a bye to the second round.

In the singles bracket, Ellefsen will face Matt Bishop of
Xavier at 10 a.m. on Friday. Yates will take on Ramon Von Flymen of Eastern
Kentucky at 10 a.m. Wallart will face Lucas Andersen of Ball State at 11 a.m.,
and Pennington will play Diego Nunez of East Tennessee State at 12:30 p.m.
Winners of these matches will play again on Thursday.

The ITA Regional Championships features some of the top
men’s and women’s players across the country. Over 8,000 student-athletes from
NCAA I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete across 85 ITA
Regional Championships around the country. The winners of each draw will
receive berths to the ITA National Indoor Championships on Feb. 17-20 hosted by
the University of Virginia.
