ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The second-ranked Kentucky rifle team edged the No. 12 United States Naval Academy by 10 points, 4648 to 4638, in UK’s road debut this season on Saturday.

The Wildcats had to come from behind to pull out the victory as the Midshipmen had a five-point advantage after smallbore.

The Wildcats closed strong however, winning air rifle by 15 points to go 2-0 on the season.

Navy led 2296-2291 after smallbore, but UK claimed air rifle by a margin 2357-2342.

Connor Davis posted a competition-high smallbore total of 584 in his first outing of the year for UK. Jon Pinkel also scored a 584.  Jason Sharbel finished smallbore fourth overall (third among Wildcats) with a 577. Elijah Ellis (sixth) and Sonya May (eighth) finished fourth and eighth respectively.

UK won air rifle 2357-2342.

Sonya May was the top overall competitor in air rifle with a 593. Pinkel, Davis and Heather Kirby scored 588 each. Ellis placed seventh with a 585.

UK’s total of 4648 was 38 points less than its season-high posted at home in the lid-lifter two weeks ago.

UK was scheduled to face Great American Rifle Conference opponent, No. 17 NC State.
