LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced the final singles and doubles rankings for the 2014 season, which features three University of Kentucky men’s tennis players, as well as the regional’s for the 2015 ITA Kick-Off Weekend set for Jan. 11-12, 2015.


Final Rankings

Headlining the final individual rankings for the UK men’s tennis team was All-American Tom Jomby, who finishes the season as the No. 16 ranked player in the country and second-highest ranked player in the Southeastern Conference.

Jomby, who was named the 2014 ITA Ohio Valley Player of the Year went 20-8 in his senior season in Lexington, and 7-4 on court one in the SEC.

Jomby ends his career as one of the most decorated singles players in Kentucky tennis history, recording 99-career wins, good for 16th on the all-time list at UK. The Nantes, France, native was a two-time All-American in 2013, gaining All-America status in both singles and doubles, with partner Kevin Lai.

Also ranked in the final release by the ITA on Wednesday was senior Alejandro Gomez, who finished the season ranked No. 98 in the country. Gomez, was fantastic in the last month of the season, only dropping one singles and doubles match on court two the entire month of April, 

Gomez went 6-1 in his last seven matches against players ranked in the top-100 of the ITA rankings and 2-0 against players in the top 50.

Jomby and sophomore Kevin Lai finished the season ranked No. 31 in the doubles rankings. Jomby and Lai earned All-America status for the first time in their careers in 2013 after finishing the season ranked inside the top-10 of the 2013 ITA rankings.


ITA Kick-Off Weekend

The University of Kentucky will once again be hosting a regional for the 2015 ITA Kick-Off Weekend. The 2015 Lexington Regional will consist of No. 20 Vanderbilt as the No. 2 seed, No. 23 South Florida and No. 24 Penn State. Lexington was the first regional to be filled up in the draft process and is the only regional in the country to feature four teams inside the top-25 of the final ITA team rankings.

Kentucky will face off against Penn State in the opening round, who will be the No. 4 seed in the regional, while South Florida will serve as the No. 3 seed, and play Vanderbilt in the opening-round match.

The winner of the Lexington Regional will advance to the Sweet 16 of the 2015 National Indoor Championships in Champaign-Urbana, Ill., where the Illinois Fighting Illini will host the men’s championship rounds.
