LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior Anthony Rossi, junior Tom Jomby and freshman Kevin Lai will all be competing in the NCAA Men’s Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships, scheduled to begin on Wednesday at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign-Urbana, Ill., on the campus of the University of Illinois.
The singles draw will get underway Wednesday morning, while the doubles championship starting on Thursday afternoon.
Rossi and Jomby will compete in the singles draw, while Jomby will pair with Lai to form the Wildcats’ representation in the 2013 doubles championship.
Rossi is the No. 4 overall seed in the draw, as he will take on John Morrissey of Stanford in the opening round of the event. Rossi is matched up in the draw with the No. 6 seeded Emilio Gomez of Southern Cal for a Sweet 16 matchup. There are five Southeastern Conference players in Rossi’s draw including (9-16) Ryan Lipman, and at-large bid players Nathan Pasha of Georgia, Jarryd Botha of Alabama and Hunter Reese of Tennessee.
Jomby received an at-large bid into the singles championship, and will face Duke’s Michael Redlicki in the first round. When Kentucky faced Duke on Thursday in the Sweet 16, Redlicki trailed Charles Minc 4-2 in the third set at the time the match was abandoned. The top seed in Jomby’s bracket is No. 3 Jarmere Jenkins of Virginia. Jomby also has a plethora of SEC opponents in his draw, as there are seven in his quarter, including Jomby, Nik Scholz of Ole Miss, Chris Simpson of LSU, Romain Bogaerts of Mississippi State, Jeremy Efferding of Texas A&M, Gonzales Austin of Vanderbilt and Ben Wagland of Georgia.
In the doubles draw, Jomby and Lai will take on Lucas Ana and Victor Valente of Georgia State in the opening round on Thursday afternoon.
