Former Kentucky point guard Rajon Rondo was selected by the Phoenix Suns in the first round of Wednesday night’s NBA Draft. Rondo, a native of Louisville who played two seasons at UK, was taken 21st overall and was the first true point guard selected.

A second-team All-SEC pick last season as a sophomore, Rondo averaged 11.2 points and led the league in assists (4.9) in 2005-06. He also led UK in rebounds (6.1) and steals (2.0).

Rondo becomes the 20th Wildcat to be taken in the first round of the NBA Draft, and the first since Tayshaun Prince went 23rd overall to the Detroit Pistons in 2002. It is the highest a Wildcat has been picked since Jamaal Magloire was taken 19th overall by Charlotte in 2000.
