Center Shagari Alleyne, at 7-foot-3 the tallest player in Kentucky basketball history, has asked for and been granted a release from his scholarship, which clears the way for the Bronx, N.Y.,-native to pursue a transfer to another school.

Alleyne, a rising senior, played in 68 games over the last three seasons for UK, averaging 2.0 points and 1.4 rebounds. He also recorded 63 blocks. Last season as a junior, he averaged 2.0 points and 1.3 boards in 21 games, while starting twice.

Alleyne?s most productive year as a Wildcat came as a sophomore in 2004-05, when he averaged 2.8 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 29 games.
