Two Lancaster Aquatics Center records fellas both the Kentucky men’s and women’sswimming and diving teams posted wins overSouthern Illinois Friday night.

Seven different men’s swimmers postedvictories to lead the UK men’s team to a142-94 winm while the UK women grabbeda 136-92 win behind six individual win fromfive swimmers.

Sophomore Nat Lewis posted an AquaticsCenter record in the 1,000 freestyle,claiming first place in the event with a time of 9:18.46. The Wildcats sweptthe top three spots in four events. Macon White won the 200 freestyle in1:41.64, while Jarrod Rush claimed first in the 50 freestyle in 20.83. J.D.Pulliam win the 400 individual medley with a mark of 4:04.55, while ToddDeSorbo captured first in the 200 butterfly in 1:54.26.

Matt Hampton and Brian Plitnick also posted wins in the 100 freestyle and200 backstroke, respectively.

Diver Paco Rivera won both the one and three-meter boards, while AlexHawley picked up third in both events.

“I think we lit a fuse under the men’s team,” UK head coach Gary Conellysaid. “Losing the opening relay (200 Medley) got them really fired up. Theyswam with a lot of emotion tonight, but I think they also learned how goodthey can be.”

Melissa Olson turned in another strong performance for the UK women,shattering the school and pool record in the 400 individual medley with atime of 4:18.80. Rachel Komisarz also swam well, picking up wins in the 50and 100 freestyles with times of 23.53 and 51.63, respectively. Ellen Strangeopened the individual events with a win in the 1000 freestyle in 10:29.06,while Annabel Kosten followed that up with a win in the 200 free in 1:54.03.Emily Buske added a win in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:05.76.

Beth Leake claimed first place on both boards, while freshman CarrieKnoeber was second on the three-meter.

“Melissa (Olson) had a great swim in the 400 IM,” Conelly said. “It was onlya second off the automatic qualifying time. Overall, I thought we swam verywell tonight.”

The UK swimming and diving teams return to action next Saturday as theyplay host to Ohio State, Ohio University and Miami (Fla.) at the LancasterAquatics Center.
