Beau Moore hit a grand slam and drove in six runs in the game andAaron McGlone was four-for-five as the Kentucky Wildcats (17-23, 7-12 SEC)defeated the Tennessee Volunteers, 15-11, in an offensive battle in thefirst game of a three-game series at Cliff Hagan Stadium.

Kentucky manufactured one run in the bottom off an Andy Green basehit and two Tennessee errors, but gave up two runs in the top of the secondas the Volunteers (21-23, 4-15 SEC) appeared to take control of the game.

The Wildcats scored four runs in the bottom of the second and turnedthe momentum back in their favor. Moore drove in the first of his six runson an RBI walk with the bases loaded scoring Breck Price from third. UKadded two hits in the inning to clear the bases and take the lead, 4-2.

But Tennessee responded in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings,scoring seven runs on eight hits and padding the lead. Kentucky could not besilenced as the bats came to life in the bottom of the sixth as the Wildcatsscored eight runs in the inning and recaptured the lead, 13-9. UT startingpitcher Marlyn Tisdale was relieved by third baseman Donnie Ross with thebases loaded in the inning. Ross’ first pitch to Moore resulted in a grandslam blast over the right field wall, clearing the bases and adding four RBIto Moore’s total.

Tennessee scored two runs in the seventh and one run in the ninthbut could not catch Kentucky as the Wildcats improved their commanding leadby two runs and won their second consecutive game, 15-11.

UK and Tennessee will play the second game of a three-game series onSaturday, April 24, at Cliff Hagan Stadium. The game is scheduled to beginat 2 p.m.
