Jordyn Rhodes Named SEC Offensive Player of the Week
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Jordyn Rhodes, a University of Kentucky women’s soccer forward, has been named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, after helping Kentucky defeat Florida 3-1 last Friday evening for the first time since 2014 and just the fifth time in the all-time series. Meanwhile, the sophomore concluded the regular season as the outright conference leader in shots, shots per game, goals, goals per game, points and points per game.
The honor marks Kentucky’s first SEC Player of the Week since Evangeline Soucie in 2017 and the first SEC Offensive Player of the Week since Zoë Swift in 2014.
Rhodes, a South Lebanon, Ohio, native, scored two goals against Florida, marking the second time this season she has scored multiple goals in one game, doing so in the season opener at Vanderbilt and the season closer against Florida.
Fun fact: Rhodes also scored multiple goals in one game twice last season, also doing so in the season opener and the season closer.
Her first goal against the Gators last Friday evening came in the 42nd minute after launching a penalty kick past goalkeeper Susi Espinoza in the center of the net. Remarkably, Rhodes is 4-of-4 on penalty kicks this season. She scored again in the 79th minute, taping the ball low into the net after a long cross from fellow forward Hannah Richardson in far-left field. Before that, Rhodes recorded her first assist of the season on a header to Richardson, helping Richardson to her first goal of the season.
In addition to leading the conference in in shots (29), shots per game (3.63), goals (7), goals per game (.88), points (15) and points per game (1.88), Rhodes also leads the team in careers goal with 15.
Rhodes is also tied for eighth with the fourth-most points scored in a single game in school history.
Rhodes will compete in her first SEC Tournament on Friday, November 13 at 9:30 p.m. ET in Orange Beach, Alabama, as the No. 12-seed Wildcats take on the No. 13-seed Gators once again under the Friday night lights.
