Steiner Scores First-Career Goal as Unbeaten Streak is Snapped

With the Wildcats trailing, Steiner was served in a ball through the schemes of the Wisconsin defense from Eva Mitchell. Steiner collected, turned and faced the goal, slotting the finish to the goalkeeper’s left to score her first-career goal.
Kentucky returns to the pitch on Friday night for the 2018 Battle of the Bluegrass against the Louisville Cardinals at Lynn Stadium in the Derby City. Kick-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. ET in Louisville and the match will be shown live on the ACC Network Extra, ESPN app and ESPN+.
Steiner caused problems all day for the Badgers defense with her pace up top and ability to track down deep runs. The goal was just one of the many opportunities that she created in the final third as the 3-1 scoreline was harsh on the Kentucky side who generated many scoring chances in the match – specifically the second half.
Steiner led the Wildcats with two shots in the match. Yuuka Kurosaki, Emma Shields and Hollie Olding all also added a shot in the match with Olding’s effort also recorded on goal.
Wisconsin scored twice in the opening half. The Badgers grabbed a 1-0 lead on 13 minutes when Murtha Cameron scored her first goal of the season on a far-post finish from wide service. The Badgers doubled their lead in the 27th minute as Victoria Pickett scored on a half-volley finish with the outside of her right foot past a diving Hannah Leonard.
After halftime, it was a rock fight for much of the second session with Lauren Rice putting the game all but away in the 70th minute off a corner for her second goal of the season.
