Eighteen Wildcats Set to Represent Kentucky at U.S. Nationals
IRVINE, Calif. – The Kentucky swimming and diving program will be well represented at this week’s Phillips 66 National Championships in Irvine, California, with 18 Wildcats slated to swim at the William Woollett, Jr. Aquatic Center from July 25-29.
“This is a great opportunity for our athletes to compete at the national level against some of the best swimmers in the country,” said Kentucky head coach Lars Jorgensen. “We’ve had a great summer so far and we’re hoping to end it on a great note here in Irvine.”
The meet serves as the selection event for multiple upcoming international competitions, including the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships, 2019 World Championships, 2019 World University Games and 2019 Pan American. More information on selection procedures for the U.S. National Teams can be found here.
Most notably, three Kentucky swimmers – Asia Seidt, Bridgette Alexander and Ali Galyer – are seeded in the top eight of the women’s 200-meter backstroke, which will be contested Thursday.
Each day will follow the same schedule of prelims at noon ET, with finals kicking off at 9 p.m. each night.
The event will be broadcast via usaswimming.org, nbcsports.com/live, the NBC Sports app, the Olympic Channel, NBC Sports Network or NBC. A full broadcast schedule can be found here.
