KENTUCKY QUOTES

Coach Kenny Brooks

Opening statement…
“You know, this is this is an opportunity for us to stack some film. We didn’t play the cleanest clean game. We had a lot of different rotations, and we were trying to figure out getting people a lot of minutes and what not. I thought we got a little bit disjointed later. Didn’t shoot the ball particularly well from three for the second straight game but know we have capabilities. But it’s just a good opportunity for us to put together some film, and I’m excited about that. And we’ll continue to build off of it, learn from it, learn each other, and I think that’s the biggest thing we need to do.”

On the threes not falling…
“I mean, out of the 35 that we took, maybe five of them were ill-advised, but for the most part they were what we wanted. They were what we’ve been shooting, they were what we’ve been, you know, hitting in practice. And even in the scrimmage against Illinois, I think we were like 12 for 24. So they’ll fall. They’ll fall. We understand that. We just got to continue to shoot the right ones and shoot the new companies.”

#13, Clara Strack

On how often she works on footwork…
“I think that’s something I have worked on my whole life, but we do continue to work on all that stuff every single day in all my workouts with Coach Brooks. We do little footwork stuff every day. No matter what, because I think at the end of the day, that’s all you can control really.”

On the team chemistry and replacing Amelia…
“I mean, like we talked about Ajša, I think she does a lot for us. She’s all over. She gets those offensive rebounds.
She can facilitate all those things and then a mixture of her and like Savvy getting offensive rebounds. Savvy can play all these positions, she can guard all these positions too. I think that’s also a really good comparison to Amelia. Obviously, you don’t get the exact same thing.
You can’t replace Amelia, but I think collectively we can get into that role.”

#8, Asia Boone

On how the team will respond when the games get tough…
“We’re a fairly young team, but I don’t think that means that we don’t have the toughness to get through those moments of when the ball is not going through the hoop. Just doing the little stuff, that’s what we’ve been harping on these past few days when it comes to these games. Just focusing on us and what we need to do to get better when it comes to the big games in the future.”
