KENTUCKY QUOTES
Coach Kenny Brooks
Opening statement…
“It’s really good to get that under our belt. You know, playing a game like this, I swear I would never play a game like this again. Where the first game of the season was with a brand new coach with a brand new team, and you had no film. We did it last year. Ashley, you know, she was here at Moorhead, and it was difficult because you still have anything to prep for. Coaches are creatures of habit. You want to have preparation. You want to be prepared for everything, and just not knowing what they were going to run. But I was proud of the kids, the way they handled some of the action. I thought our defense was good in the first quarter, first part of the game, but we have a lot to work on. But it’s a good start. We got some performances. We spread the minutes out, and we’re going to be in a working process for a little while.”
On the performance of freshman…
“They had spunk. They’re very hard workers; they want to get better. They’re understanding, they’re trying to fit in.”
#13, Clara Strack
On how it feels being back…
“Yeah, I think it was good to get back out here. Obviously, we’ve been working really hard this off season, getting ready for this. So, it just felt good to get back, knock the rust off, shake the nerves out, and be back in front of the fans.”
On playing with Ajša Sivka…
“Yeah, she’s pretty tall. I love playing with Ajsa. Obviously, she’s an incredible player. I mean, she’s already been drafted, so I think all that helps. We’re very tall, we’re very long. I think that helps on the boards, on defense, and we’re able to like switch with each other. And yeah, it’s been really fun playing with her, she’s great.”
#7, Ajša Sivka
On prep and passing the ball well…
“Yes, it was hard to prepare for the team, also we really didn’t know the players, but yes I’m always going to look for teammates.”
