Wildcats Comeback Effort Falls Short, Lose 2-1 at Lipscomb
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Wildcats (0-5-2, 0-1-0 SBC) comeback effort fell short tonight in a 2-1 loss in a nonconference tilt with the Lipscomb Bisons (3-4-1, 2-1-0 ASUN) in Nashville.
Lipscomb jumped out to an early lead, scoring two goals inside the first 23 minutes of the match, with goals coming from Yonis Kireh and Luke Hanlon. The Bisons would maintain their two-goal advantage heading into the halftime break.
Less than 15 minutes into the second half, Wildcat forward Michael Lee brought one back to cut the Lipscomb lead in half, scoring his second goal of the season to make it 2-1 in the 58th minute.
The Wildcats were unable to find an equalizer over the final half hour of the match, resulting in a 2-1 defeat in their second road matchup of 2026.
Kentucky outshot Lipscomb 21-7 on the night, including a 13-4 advantage in the second half, and 9-5 on shots on goal.
Wildcat goalkeeper Benjamin Rassmussen reclaimed his starting position between the posts following a red card suspension, making three saves on the night and improving his season total to 17. Freshman forward Thomas Nielsen recorded four of the team’s nine shots on frame, three of which came in the first half.
The Wildcats will return to Sun Belt Conference play on Sunday, Sept. 27 for a meeting with the UCF Knights in Orlando, Fla. at 4 p.m. ET.
