Mikael Arseneault Victorious at Day One of ITA All-American Championship

TULSA, Okla. – Monday was the kick-off of the fall’s premier event in college tennis, as Kentucky Wildcat Mikael Arseneault was victorious in a tight three-setter over Arizona State’s Jelani Sarr to move into the next round of singles open qualifying in the event.

Arseneault, who is entering his second year at Kentucky, dropped the first set 6-4 before battling to win sets two and three, both by a break at 6-3, 6-4 in just over an hour’s time. With the win, Arseneault will move on to Tuesday’s next round of qualifying as he will face Tulsa’s Nikita Volonski, who also won in three sets Monday, knocking off the No. 4 seeded player in the draw, Zoran Lidoski of Arizona, 7-6, 1-6, 6-3.

Rafael Ymer won his pre-qualifying singles match Monday as well as Tom Sickenberger as the two newcomers to the Wildcats roster both were victorious to move into the next round of the back-draw matches of the tournament. Both Ymer and Sickenberger will play Tuesday afternoon in the next round.

Singles and doubles of the main draw, which includes UK stars Nicholas Arseneault, Jack Loutit and Eli Stephenson, will start on Wednesday afternoon as the order of play will be announced Tuesday evening for those matches.
