LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky women’s soccer team (4-3-0, 0-0-0 SEC) fell to Bowling Green (3-1-1, 0-0-0 MAC), 2-1, on Sunday, September 6, at the Bell Soccer Complex.
The Falcons claimed the lead early over the Wildcats going into halftime. In the 19th minute, senior midfielder Audrey Oliver knocked in a goal off an assist from fellow senior Ella Kane.
Sophomore Teagan Myers provided a spark off the bench and had a good look for the Wildcats at the beginning of the second half, recording a shot on goal that ultimately got blocked by Bowling Green’s Payton O’Malley.
Kentucky fought back with two-time SEC Freshman of the Week Kyla Dawn finding the equalizer off an assist from Michelle Moskau in the 62nd minute, earning her eighth goal of the season.
Late in the second half, Bowling Green was able to pull ahead of Kentucky, 2-1, with Lizzie Bultynck finding the back of the net thanks to a feed from Emme Butera.
Sophomore goalkeeper Megan Holland recorded five saves, including four in the second half, and the Falcons’ O’Malley posted four. Kentucky finished with six corner kicks while Bowling Green only had one.
The Falcons outshot the Cats 10-8 and held the 7-5 advantage in shots on goal. Myers led the Wildcats with two shots, both on goal. Kentucky recorded an additional six shots, with Moskau, Dawn, Nadia Ramadan, Elise Ernest, Sydney Arendarczyk and Amy Dekkers recording one apiece but were unable to convert.
Up next, the Wildcats will look to move on and open conference play at The Bell by taking on the Texas A&M Aggies on Friday, Sept. 11, at 7:30 p.m. ET.
