Kentucky Women’s Golf, Karlie Campbell Earn Runner-Up at the Terps Invitational
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team finished runner-up at the Terps Invitational at the University of Maryland Golf Course (par 72, 6,244 yards) in College Park, Maryland, on Monday.
Karlie Campbell, a sophomore from Ethridge, Tennessee, also finished runner-up in the individual field, which included 90 players. In fact, a trio of UK players appeared in the top 10, also including C.A. Carter tying for third place and Raleygh Simpson tying for sixth place. Even better, all five UK players in the lineup finished in the top 15.
It was a tough finish for the young squad, who had a three-shot advantage down the stretch of the final round. However, Virginia, who actually began the final round with a six-shot advantage, came up with one too many birdies in the final holes Monday.
UK earned the best team score – a 5-under – in the final round to assemble a 2-under tournament total for second place at the Terps Invitational, while UV went just 1-under in the final round for a 4-under through 54 holes and the tournament title.
The two teams dominated the rest of the 16-team field as host Maryland finished 19 shots behind Kentucky with a +21 for third place.
The Wildcats concluded the regular season with six finishes inside the top three through 10 events in 2025-26.
Campbell, the tournament’s individual runner-up, had quite the turnaround story.
The sophomore turned in a 4-over-par 76 in the first round, which didn’t even contribute to the team score, then bounced back with a 3-under-par 69 in the second round and a 2-under-par 70 in the final round. She made up enough ground to make up for her first round and one more shot to spare, finishing with a 1-under-par 215 tournament total to find second place at the Terps Invitational.
Only Campbell and the individual leader – Jaclyn LaHa of Virginia – finished the 54 holes with par-or-better tournament totals.
It also marked the best finish in her college career.
Not far behind her, C.A. Carter tied her 18-hole career best with a 3-under-par 69 on Monday. She earned a 1-over-par 217 for the event to finish tied for third place, just one shot off her 54-hole career best.
Raleygh Simpson also improved her scorecard after an even-par 72 in the final round, helping her assemble a 2-over-par 218 tournament total to find a share of sixth place. The sophomore has now recorded five par-or-better rounds in her last eight rounds, a stretch that began at the Valspar Augusta Invitational in mid-March.
Cathryn Brown came in just outside of the top 10, going 3-over to tie for 11th place, which marked her sixth finish inside the top 15 in 2025-26. Anastasia Hekkonen, who was pacing the team after two rounds, suffered a 5-over in the final round, which put her at 5-over for the event but still earning an impressive share of 14th place.
Competing as an individual, Sammy Paradise rallied a 15-over tournament total for a share of 58th place.
The Wildcats played in their final event of the regular season this week and now will prepare for the Southeastern Conference Championship at the Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida, beginning on April 17.
