LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky women’s tennis team (9-10, 1-9 SEC) defeated Missouri (10-11, 0-10 SEC) 4-1 at home in conference play. Freshman Reese Sager led the Wildcats, sweeping set one in singles and earning a doubles win with Asuncion Jadue.
Starting off doubles, the dynamic duo of Jadue and Sager won 6-0 on court one. Roso and Lazar took court two for Missouri, winning 6-2, which left court three to decide the doubles point. Freshman Le Roux and sophomore Zhu secured court three 6-3, clinching the point for Kentucky to take the lead in the match.
Up 1-0, the Wildcats kept their momentum as freshman Sager swept Missouri’s Ackman 6-0, 6-3 to secure the first singles point. Shortly after, Julia Zhu battled on court two and won 6-2, 6-2, extending the Wildcats’ lead to 3-0.
On court one, Hammond played the Tiger’s Octa. Mizzou scored their first point of the match by winning 6-3, 7-5, cutting Kentucky’s lead to 3-1 and extending the match.
Kentucky won the match with a final win on court four, where Elena Molla defeated Missouri’s Andrea Artimedi in a competitive first set 7-5 and 6-4 in set two.
The Wildcats will head back to Lexington for a match against Vanderbilt on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex before heading to Georgia later in the week.
