Kentucky Tied for 14th Place Following Darius Rucker Intercollegiate Second Round

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team is tied for 14th place following the second round at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Long Cove Golf Club (par 71, 6,378) in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

The Wildcats shed five strokes off their first round score to go 12-over in the second round. They are 29-over through 36 holes, just 10 shots outside of the top 10.

Cathryn Brown delivered one of the team’s strongest performances of the day, turning in a 2-over to climb 10 spots on the individual leaderboard for a share of 61st place.

Brown, a junior from Eddyville, Kentucky, opened her round with a birdie on the par-4 No. 1. She settled into a rhythm with seven straight pars before dropping a shot on the ninth. She recovered with her second birdie of the day on the par-4 No. 10, and after a couple of bogeys over her next three holes, she wrapped up the second round with five straight pars.

Sophomores and roommates Karlie Campbell and Raleygh Simpson both turned in 3-over-par 75s on Tuesday. For Simpson, her 3-over was a three-shot improvement from her opening round, while it is the fourth-best, 18-hole round of her college career.

Campbell is T28, while Simpson is T56.

Anastasia Hekkonen, who was leading the team after 18 holes on a +1, went +4 in the second round. Despite recording back-to-back birdies in her first four holes, they were the only birdies she found on the golf course the rest of the day. However, the sophomore is still in good position at T28.

C.A. Carter improved today with a 7-over Monday, which featured a birdie on her very first hole of the day, the par-4 No. 1.

The Wildcats will tee off in the final round Wednesday beginning at 10:20 a.m. ET on hole No. 10, paired with Georgia and South Carolina.
