Wildcats Drop Contest Against No. 16 Texas A&M

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Despite opening the match by winning its eighth-straight doubles point, Kentucky (8-4, 1-1 SEC) fell in a 6-1 contest against No. 16 Texas A&M (9-3, 2-0 SEC) at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex on Monday afternoon.

The Wildcats began the day by continuing its success in doubles play, earning ranked victories on courts one and two. Nicolas Arseneault and Jaden Weekes earned their first ranked win of the season with a 6-2 upset over No. 61 Alex Frusina and Kholo Montsi. Mere seconds later, No. 23 Jack Loutit and Eli Stephenson delivered the clinching win with a 6-2 victory over No. 80 Theo Papalamalis and Togan Tokac.

Texas A&M would proceed to win all six singles matches to secure the victory. The Aggies earned their first point after No. 16 Stephenson was forced to retire due to injury on court two.

No. 108 Frusnia gave Texas A&M a lead it would not relinquish with a win on court three, defeating No. 38 Loutit in straight sets. No. 78 Papalamalis also earned a straight sets win, defeating No. 94 Nicolas Arseneault on court one.

No. 91 Charlelie Cosnet won his first set on court four but ultimately fell to Markus Molder in a tight, three set match, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. With the dual clinched in favor of Texas A&M, the two teams played out the remaining matches. Tokac defeated Mikael Arseneault in straight sets on court five and Lathan Skrobarcek defeated Matt Rankin in a match tiebreak on court six.

The Cats will return to the Boone on Friday, February 27, hosting No. 15 Florida at 5 p.m. ET. Admission is free to the public and fans are encouraged to wear black.
