Men’s Tennis Sweeps Louisville for Rivalry Win

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky men’s tennis (4-2) breezed past rival Louisville (6-3) on Friday evening, winning a decisive, 4-0, result inside the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex.

Kentucky improves to 31-0 all-time against its in-state rival. UK also extends its winning streak inside the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex to 31 matches.

The day began with a closely contested doubles point. Kentucky’s top pair of Eli Stephenson and Jack Loutit picked up a ranked win over No. 21 Matei Onofrei and Andre Steinbach, 6-3. The Cats’ number two tandem of Jaden Weekes and Nicolas Arseneault went down in a tight tiebreaker, 7-6 (4), but Antoine Ghibaudo and Martin Breysach picked up their teammates, delivering a hard-fought 7-6 (7) victory to give Kentucky the doubles point for the third time this season.

In singles play, Weekes got the home team off on the right foot, taking down Louisville’s Onofrei, 6-2, 6-1 in straight sets. That effort was followed by another 6-2, 6-1 win, this time from Kentucky freshman Nicolas Arseneault, who improved to 3-1 in singles dual matches with a ranked win against No. 122 El Amine.

Ghibaudo and Stephenson split the first two sets in their respective matches on courts one and three, but did not reach the finish line before sixth singles, Mikael Arseneault, raced to a 6-0, 6-1 win over the Cardinals’ Jerald Carroll, improving to 2-0 in singles on the dual season.

Kentucky will be back at the Boone Tennis Center on Sunday when the Wildcats take on No. 15 Duke beginning at 12 p.m.
