Head Coach Kenny Brooks
Opening Statement…
““We knew that was going to be a tough game, I probably didn’t get much sleep last night thinking about this game. Kellie does a tremendous job with her group and she’s back in the SEC. She has a really good staff as well. She’s familiar with the SEC, she’s had some people come from Tennessee, so they have a great familiarity with this league, and we knew it was going to be tough. They play a very methodical style, waiting for you to make a mistake and usually when you make a mistake, they try to capitalize with a three-point shot. I think we had to implore our kids to play with more energy, a little bit today. It’s not an excuse, but you know the emotional game on Thursday, travel delays, didn’t get back here until Friday, and then one day prepared for a very tough team. I’m proud of the kids, coming away with a victory in this league is not going to be easy, and we went 2-0 this week, so it was really good. As far as Teonni is concerned, I don’t have any updates right now, I will go and talk to her as soon as this is all over with, but we just hope and pray for her, she’s a big part of our team.”
On where Tonie has improved…
““I don’t know what football team is doing good without a good quarterback. Tonie, she’s been phenomenal all year long. I’ve been seeing it and you guys probably didn’t read between the lines when I was saying it early on, her willingness to be coached. She never makes a face when she doesn’t agree with something and whatever it is, from day one, I told you guys she’s not trying to fill Georgia Amore’s shoes, she’s her own player. Throughout these last few months where we watch film together, we watch film a lot and she’s consistently just welcoming any kind of feedback and she takes it.”.”
On the fine line of settling for the three and keep shooting…
“We don’t put it in their heads, I mean they know when enough is enough. It’s not a verbal exchange, I don’t tell them in the huddle to not shoot it anymore. We do enough talking, enough scouting and whatnot, that they know when enough is enough.”
#5, Tonie Morgan
On responding to a slow start coming off a big win…
“We knew going in we didn’t want to be one-hit wonders. We know that we have a goal in mind and we have to keep going every game in the SEC. We got the job done, we celebrated Thursday, but after that it’s onto the next mission. After this W, we go to the next weekend.”
On returning to play after an injury…
“That was my bad, I shouldn’t react like that. I know I scared my coaches and teammates a little bit, but we snapped back, though. We moved on and got to do it for her, being strong for her and got to keep pushing, finishing strong.”
On her mindset taking care of the ball…
“I have the ball a lot, so it is very important that I take care of it. So, when I do turn it over, I just move on. It happens, especially because I have the ball most of the game, so I just want to take care of it.”
