Kentucky Drops Heartbreaking 2-1 Result in Non-Conference Finale vs. No. 14 Indiana

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky Wildcats (6-2-3, 3-1-0 SBC) returned to The Bell Tuesday night for a non-conference matchup against the 14th-ranked Indiana Hoosiers (9-3-1, 3-3-0 BIG Ten) under the lights, losing 2-1 in heartbreaking fashion.

The Wildcats fall to 6-2-3 on the season with the first 11 matches of the 2025 season in the books, and with five more games remaining on the schedule, all against Sun Belt Conference opponents. The loss tonight against the Hoosiers also snaps an 11-match home unbeaten streak for the Cats.

With just under 10 minutes left in the first half, sophomore forward Joaquin Brizuela opened the scoring for the Wildcats in the 36th minute, scoring his third goal of the season, and a goal in his second consecutive game. The Argentine-international tucked away a headed effort coming off a cross from forward Eric Onos, his second assist this season in as many appearances, giving UK the 1-0 advantage.

The scoreline would remain at 1-0 heading into the halftime break, with the Wildcats leading 6-5 on shots in the opening half, as well as 3-2 on shots on goal and a slight 53-47% advantage in the possession department.

Coming out of the intermission, Indiana ramped up the offensive pressure, forcing Kentucky into a deeper, more defensive position from the onset of the second half. The Hoosiers would find their equalizer from a penalty awarded in the 63rd minute, with the goal scored by leading scorer Plamer Ault, his 10th of the season.

Ault would net his second goal of the night, and his 11th of the year, 15 minutes later at the 78-minute mark, assisted by Charlie Heuer, to put Indiana in front with just 12 minutes remaining in the match.

Despite a few scoring opportunities for the Wildcats from Brizuela, Onos and defender Owen Mikoy, Indiana would see out the remainer of the game and secure the 2-1 result away from home, earning their ninth win of 2025 and handing Kentucky just their second loss of the season.

Next up for the Cats will be a Sun Belt Conference matchup against the South Carolina Gamecocks on Sunday, Oct. 19 at The Bell at 3 p.m. ET.
