
Kentucky Women’s Tennis Earns 4-3 Win at Arkansas
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Kentucky Women’s Tennis team earned a thrilling 4-3 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks on Sunday afternoon thanks to four singles wins on courts one, three, five and six to capture the win.
In the last match of the day, it came down to junior, Ellie Meyers, who defeated her opponent, Jimena Gomez Alonso of Arkansas 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in three sets, securing the victory on the road. The win gives Kentucky its first Southeastern Conference win of the season
The doubles point went to the Razorbacks, where they won matches on courts one and two to clinch the point. The third match remained unfinished, however, Zoe Hammond and Ellie Meyers were leading 5-3 at the time of the clinch for Arkansas. Asuncion Jadue and Julia Zhu were defeated 6-4 on court one and Ellie Eades and Lizzy Stevens were also defeated, 6-1.
The first singles match to finish on Sunday was freshman, Asuncion Jadue, who dominated her opponent, taking a straight-sets decision, 6-3, 6-3. The second Cat to take a singles point was fifth-year senior, Lizzy Stevens, managing a 6-2, 0-6, 6-1 win on the second court. Junior and 101st-ranked Zoe Hammond fought until the end to defeat #55 Carolina Gomez of Arkansas, totaling Hammond’s overall record to an impressive 8-4. Ellie Meyers topped off the Cats with a strong final match, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, to end the day on a win as UK clinched the match with a 4-3 win.
Kentucky’s season record now sits at 7-7 overall, and 1-5 in conference. After three away matches, the Cats will return to The Boone Tennis Center and take on Mississippi State Friday, March 21 for a 5:00 p.m. match.
