Makarawu Ties Lifetime Best on Day One of NCAA Indoor Championships, Advances to 200m Final
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – On the penultimate day of the 2025 indoor season, the Kentucky Wildcats’ track and field team began competition at the NCAA Championships today in Virginia Beach, Va.
Sophomore standout Kate Powers, fresh off a gold medal win at the SEC Championships just two weeks prior, finished 15th in the women’s weight throw final event in her first-ever national indoor appearance. With that finish, she earned Second-Team All-America Honors, her second postseason award in as many weeks.
In the night cap, Kentucky’s 200m record holder, Carlie Makarawu, tied his lifetime best time of 20.20, placing first in the men’s 200m preliminary event to advance to tomorrow’s final. The SEC silver medalist beat out Auburn’s Makanakaishe Charamba, the nation’s current 200m leader, by a hundredth of a second to take the top spot. The two will face off once more in the 200m final tomorrow at 6:50 p.m. EST.
In the conclusion of the 2025 indoor season, tomorrow’s events will begin at 9:30 a.m. EST, with the women’s 4x400m relay team, consisting of Hannah Douglas, Cha’iel Johnson, Oneika McAnuff and Stacey Onyepunuka, opening competition for the Wildcats at 4:20 p.m. EST.
